TANK Art Festival 2023 was successfully held on 2 through 5 October 2023.
As an annual contemporary art feast in Shanghai, the four-day art festival featured exhibitions, Artist Rooms, Art Supermarkets, artperformances, TANK 藝BA , art ecology, artist lives, lectures and dialogues and other activities. It is a city-wide mega-event with contemporary art at its core.
Artist Rooms
Artist Rooms gather independent projects of the most active contemporary artists in China. The artists walk into TANK Shanghai to present more accessible artworks. Each Room is an exhibition, a market, and a performance, displaying the fresh face of contemporary art. At the same time, it is a shopping experience for the audience to bring art home easily.

TANK兿BA
At TANK Shanghai, the premiere of TANK 兿BA, a concept art basketball scene jointly created by numerous artists and musicians during the daytime and night time alike, and open call to invite 3V3 free battles, artistic all-star shooting/skills competitions, self-organized challenges and sound linkage arenas, and halftime parties en plein air with musicians on the dance floor.

Dialogues and Lectures
Collectors, participating artists, gallery owners and curators are invited to TANK Art Festival 2023 to hold a number of themed dialogues and lectures to discuss about different aspects of the art industry’s ecology, and important issues that we are faced with at the moment and in the future.

Over the past 5 editions of TANK Art Festival, the inaugural TANK Art Festival took place in 2019, then in 2020, we introduced the "Art Specialist Clinic" special project, followed by the “Big Starts’ Exhibition” and “Artists' Boxing Match" in 2021. In 2022, we focused on the working conditions of artists, and then in 2023, the “TANK 藝BA” and "Art Supermarket” were launched. The five TANK Art Festivals have brought different art experiences, showing the sustainability of art and the sustainability of art ecology.
As Lu Xinghua commented:
“TANK Art Festival” aims to form a symbiotic circle of Chinese contemporary art and promote:
·the composting, synthesis and symbiosis among young artists;
·the composting, synthesis and symbiosis between artists and art lovers, art collectors and art market operators;
·and contemporary art becomes a means for us to survive in symbiosis with other species within the earth system.
These are the three appeals of TANK Art Festival made to restart the post-pandemicChinese contemporary art. To sum up: let’s become players, compost and live symbiotically!
